Iron Hill Brewery in Media, PA

The last time I was at Iron Hill Brewery couldn’t have been for a less fun event:  Jury Duty.  Womp Womp.  Is it me, or does it feel like this past year… everyone has had to actually report to Jury Duty?  This was my first time, and it was on Valentine’s Day.  Like… really?!  Don’t they know I have better, happier things to attend to?  It was the most boring day ever- Drive out to Media, sit in a big sweaty room with a million people, didn’t get called… had to wait longer… didn’t get called… lunch break for AN HOUR AND A HALF?!?!? before letting us all go five minutes after we returned!!  UG!  I walked down to Iron Hill, one of my favorite restaurants in Media for a nice warm soup (decorated with a heart of course) and sandwich.  YUM!

Valentine’s Day Roasted Carrot Soup… adorable!

I want this nowwwwwwww

Anyway, THIS time around… was for a much much more exciting occasion:  GIRLS NIGHT!  Oh, and just a heads up, this is the first of many “Girls Night” posts to come.  I’ve been making my rounds lately, trying to see as many friends as possible… it’s been really fun catching up and trying new places!

The special occasion for this Girls Night was our friend Cynthia coming in to visit from Virginia.  Cynthia is one of my closest friends from Penn State and over the past 4 post-college years, I’ve gotten to know her other friends well enough to call them my own!  We have so much fun when we all get together which is rare since Cyn now lives in VA with her husband.

On this particular night, I met up with Cyn, Susan, Melissa, and Amanda at Iron Hill.  I was super psyched to see them, but probably even more excited to find and nail a parallel parking spot RIGHT in front.  Yesssssssss.  It’s the little things in life, really.

Iron Hill’s own brewed beer is delish.  We each started off with a different type but I had to get my very favorite, their Raspberry Wheat.  MMM.

Us hungry girls started the night off with Iron Hill’s delicious Hand-Cut Sweet Potato Fries.  The fries were more like wedges… they were huge and so yummy, but the best part about them were the trio of dipping sauces.  YUM!

Here they are! Bourbon-Vanilla Cream (sweet) , Smoked Paprika Aioli (savory), and Habanero-Lime (spicy!) Dipping Sauces…

For my meal, our quirky server suggested I try the special Butternut Squash soup of the day.  He even said the soup “blossoms” as it cools… whatever that means, lol.    So I ordered the Soup and their Red Quinoa starter salad.  The soup was just fair (it certainly didn’t blossom… that’s for sure!) but the salad was awesome.  It was like nothing I’ve ever had before and I was so surprised to be soooo full afterwards!  The Quinoa salad consisted of Spiced Pecans, Mandarin Oranges, Dried Cranberries, Granny Smiths, and Green Onion over a bed of Red Quinoa, topped with an Orange-Vanilla Bean Vinaigrette and Apple-Ginger Puree.  Whoa.  It was sweet and crunchy and very filling.

Not as pretty as the V-Day soup!

Iron Hill was the perfect spot for our girls night!  I can’t wait to see them again soon 🙂

You know what else I love?  Iron Hill’s current homepage to their website has the very quote my blog name is based off of!  How perfect 🙂  Check it out along with their menu… I love it there!

Celebrating what was the first night of Boots Season!!!! (minus one wedge hehe)

Manayunk Tavern

I never get to do Happy Hour!  I pretty much exercise every day after work is over, so getting to a bar for cheap drinks and food never seems to happen for me.  EW!

I briefly mentioned on Monday, that this past Friday I had enough of this… and made a point to get out of work and get down to Happy Hour!  My boyfriend Dave and our friend Adam and I headed over to the artsy, adorable, bar-infested area of Philadelphia called Manayunk.  It couldn’t have been more of a beautiful day and we were determined to get a table outside.

For all of you NON-Philadelphians… it’s pronounced Man-EE-Yunk!

I’m loving fresh Margarita’s this season!

After the boys had a beer and I had a Margarita at Derek’s, we were able to get a PRIME seat at the Manayunk Tavern.  Our table was the first one outside of the restaurant, which was the perfect spot for people watching.  SO FUN!

I was pretty pumped because they had my favorite beer on tap!  Have you ever tried it?  It sounds really weird… and it is… but it’s SO GOOD!  It’s the 21st Amendment Brewery’s “Hell or High Watermelon“.  It’s a wheat beer, and yes, it’s flavored with watermelon.  It has a really refreshing flavor and surprisingly it works really well.  I know I’ve had it before from Wegmans, if you’re looking for it.

I’ve been to Manayunk Tavern for dinner before, and I absolutely love their soups.  They are always made fresh and really creative.  They have a spectacular butternut squash soup in the fall… i am craving it now!  It was too hot outside to get soup, so the three of us decided to try out the Calamari.

Great calamari!

You know how sometimes you order fried Calamari out at a restaurant, and it just sucks?  There are so many ways to screw it up, and I always feel such disappointment!  It can be soggy, too breaded, not seasoned well, not hot enough, etc…. ew!  Well let me tell you, this Calamari was fantastic!  It was fried to a crisp and was tossed with enough fried Jalapeno slices to give it a nice hot kick!  Easy A!

For dinner, I had to go against my attempt to “quit” cheese and order a really decadent burger.  It sounded so interesting I couldn’t resist… and I don’t even like bacon on burgers… but I had to do it!  I ordered the “Smokey” Burger, complete with a Smoked Paprika Dry Rub (on a burger?!?! right!?), Applewood Bacon, Smoked Mozz, Chipotle Remoulade, Lettuce, Toms, and Onions.  WOW!  It was awesome.  I chose the Sweet Potato Fries as my side, but they were a little too greasy so I didn’t eat that many.

The boys ordered a Filet sandwich which was loaded with good stuff… I’m sorry I don’t have a picture, but we all dug into our food so fast I didn’t get a chance!  lol.

Afterwards, we saw The Avengers.  Has anyone else seen it?  Thoughts?  I enjoyed it but was pretty unimpressed.  (although it did inspire Dave and I to watch Captain America on Saturday!)
